My friends in Santa Cruz keep posting photos of the Sweet Peas in bloom right now and they are making me homesick! Actually, I always feel homesick at this time of year either for Santa Cruz (where I lived for 24 years) or for New England (where I grew up) because I lived fairly close to a beach most of my life. Now we’re inland—about 4 hours away from the nearest ocean—and it is HOT!
I currently have a fantasy of Paul and I buying a little beach house, and that I will plant Sweet Peas in front of it. I have always loved that flower—they smell wonderful. But they are also really appropriate as a flower essence for someone who wants to make a place feel like home.
Sweet Pea flower essence helps in particular if you have ever been uprooted from a cherished home or never quite fit in where you have lived (or where you live now). Perhaps you grew up in a military family and had to move a lot so you never really allow yourself to bond with a community now. Perhaps you’ve even gone through a period of homelessness. Sweet Pea helps you connect with your sense of belonging, community, and at-homeness.
I just added a spray version of Sweet Pea with the ability to add an essential oil scent from my list. (I wish I had Sweet Pea as a scent but I don’t.)
I also use Sweet Pea in a flower essence blend I call “Feeling at Home After a Move.” The full flower list in this one includes:
- Honeysuckle: for letting go of homesickness and being in the present
- Larch: for expecting a positive outcome, having more confidence
- Sweet Pea: for regaining a sense of home
- Walnut: for help navigating the challenge of being uprooted
Be at home!
