When I first started my Mama Love business I had twelve flower essence aromatherapy formulas that were spiritually guided for purposes I needed and thought other people could use as well. One of them was called “Trusting Inner Guidance” and, even though I thought this was an important purpose, my customers did not agree. Almost nobody bought that one so I thought it was a mistake. “I must be weird,” I thought to myself. Maybe other people don’t have any fears about trusting their intuition. Maybe they don’t feel like they need spiritual guidance in their lives. Maybe . . . I didn’t know, I just knew it wasn’t selling. So I was going to discontinue this product.
But then my spiritual guidance spoke up loudly: “Don’t give up so fast!” Really? I never sell them! But my guidance insisted and not long after that, the Great Recession hit and “Trusting Inner Guidance” started to fly off my shelves.
Sales eventually tapered off, but this time my gut told me to hang in there with this product once again. We had an intense political cycle, a new kind of president was voted in, all kinds of hell was breaking loose on a daily basis, and then the pandemic hit and sales went crazy again. And have kept going on and off ever since.
Apparently, people want to talk to God or their angels or to their Higher Self when things seem scary, out of control, and uncertain. And I don’t blame them—so do I! But that is exactly when it feels scariest to trust less physically tangible sources of support. Rule #1 when it comes to trusting guidance is to avoid the traps of fantasy or fear. But if fear is what’s making you want guidance . . . well . . . that’s obviously a bit of a problem.
My “Trusting Inner Guidance” formula combines Angelica, Star Tulip, Lotus, and Purple Monkeyflower flower essences for increased awareness of spiritual sources of support, expanded insight and meditative focus, along with emotional balance, calm and clarity around spiritual / psychic phenomena. If you choose my scented version, I add in Sandalwood, Cedarwood, Angelica, and Clary Sage essential oils for enhanced meditative relaxation, spiritual awareness and expansive vision balanced with groundedness and a feeling of safety.
Notice that the phrase “meditative focus” is mentioned twice. Being in a grounded meditative or prayerful space is essential for receiving spiritual guidance in a useful way. I also recommend setting a clear intention that your guidance come from the Highest place (as you define that) and that the guidance be clear, kind, direct, just what you need for your highest well-being, and nothing more.
And then let go. Guidance can be received in many ways. A dream with meaningful symbolic content, a still small voice you barely perceive, a feeling in your gut, having your attention drawn to a particular book on your bookshelf, a song on the radio, even a murmur on the breeze if you’re so inclined. It might be that a stranger says just what you need to hear, or something catches your attention on the internet and next thing you know you’re on a page you didn’t expect and read something you didn’t even know you needed see. So many ways. The key is to be open, relaxed, and follow the breadcrumbs of what you’re attracted to or curious about next.
