Have you ever just wanted to get away from your life? There are many ways people use to escape and many of those methods can be helpful from time to time. A vacation, healing retreat, or sabbatical can do wonders for relieving burnout, re-aligning yourself with what matters, or learning something new. But, more often, I think people tend to fall into patterns of addiction in an attempt to self-medicate or push their unhappiness into the background. Excessive daydreaming is one of the most common escape routes for those who don’t use substances instead. In some respects it’s safer because if you have a rich enough fantasy world, who needs drugs? And once in awhile drifting off into dreamy fantasy can be useful! It can be great for visualization, for example, when used purposely for that reason. And it’s certainly a lovely way to pass the time on a subway, bus or plane or when you’re stuck waiting around without a cell phone (another addictive time-sucker) in your pocket. But, like all addictive activities, daydreaming can lead to ill effects if you use it to escape the here and now.
One of the original Bach Flower Remedies, Clematis, was made to address the habit of escaping into daydreams or fantasies of some future unidentified time when things would just magically fall into place. Dr. Bach recognized that there were people he met in his medical practice who tended to be disconnected and had a hard time getting well because they were unhappy in their lives. But instead of using their power of visualization to craft real plans they could follow through on, they used it for escape. They preferred to live in a dreamy ungrounded state with their heads in the clouds, and that sometimes would manifest in being inattentive to their physical environment and becoming accident prone as a result.
People who use their imagination in their work, like artists and other creative people, are often more prone to this type of behavior. There is also a very fine line between using that skill and meditative states that allow a person to access psychic insights. Again, there IS a use for these abilities! The problem occurs when excessive fantasy is being used to avoid engaging with the present.
Clematis helps a person come back down to earth, be more in their bodies, more grounded, focussed and able to put their creative visions into action. It’s not about losing the ability to fantasize, it’s about balance and having more interest in the embodied activities of present-time daily life.
Find Clematis as a dosage strength dropper bottle or unscented spray.
Or as a scented spray.

Flower essences are used to assist with mind-body-spirit interactions and individual results may vary. They are extremely dilute which makes them quite safe. But because so little physical substance can be detected in a flower essence solution, these products are presumed to work on an energetic or vibrational level—something that cannot be adequately tested by western scientific methods. Claims made by me, therefore, are based on personal experiences and the evidence of the combined multiple decades of case notes by Dr. Edward Bach as well as Healing Herbs and Flower Essence Services (the companies who make the ingredients I use in my products). This is not, however, accepted medical evidence or substantiated scientific evidence from a modern allopathic point of view. I am not a medical doctor or licensed healthcare practitioner.
