During these intense times, my customers have been looking for flower essences and formulas for soothing intense emotions on my list and I’ve mentioned several in my recent blog posts. And between their own requests and my own explorations I keep coming up with more! There, of course, have been numerous requests for Soothing the Angry Heart—I sold eight to one person today! But I wish more people were buying Holly because so much of the anger is morphing into hate. On the other hand, Holly is an essential component in my Open-Hearted Loving formula and I have seen requests for that. I talked about Open-Hearted Loving on this blog just a day or so ago because I found it helpful myself. But I did not find it helpful for instantaneous reactionary responses to emotional triggers. Or, at least not enough—I had to add additional options. So I thought I ought to talk about that.
The important thing to understand is that people’s responses have so much to do with their personal life histories and personal ways of coping. There is no one-size-fits-all solution! Some people relate particularly intensely to the trauma of the Palestinians because they have felt oppressed and traumatized themselves. Some relate to the Israelis because of, ironically, similar issues. Some people are frightened and horrified and heartbroken about dismissive comments, and people caring about THIS suffering and not THAT suffering along with an almost total disregard for history, context, and complexity. Some are horrified and heartbroken about ALL of it. Everybody hates seeing videos and photographs of traumatized children. And most people want it solved NOW—just make it STOP! Wouldn’t it be great if, like a parent fed up with their kids fighting, we could just tell everyone to “go to your rooms and don’t come out until you’re ready to behave!”? You know, CEASEFIRE! But they’re adults and both sides have to agree.
We’re not in control of this situation. It’s not that we can’t do anything, perhaps we can influence it, but we’re all going to do a lot better if we can act from a place of calm so we can work effectively with all those involved and not cause more harm than good. (For example, with brutality on our own streets and college campuses.) Let’s take a deep breath and consider a ceasefire of reactionary responses that just pour gasoline on an already raging fire.
A few flower essence formulas to add to the list of potential tools:
Calming Reactivity: Contains Larch (for more faith that things could work out despite what seems to be happening now), Nicotiana (for deep inner peace, relaxation), and Willow (to counteract misery and pessimism and replace it with renewed optimism and faith).
Healing for Political Stress, Angst and Despair: Sweet Chestnut (for hope and strength in the midst of despair), Glassy Hyacinth (for coping with horror, when you feel like you are looking into the face of evil), Beech (for the ability to cope with what feels intolerable), Willow (for moving beyond misery), and Impatiens (for the patience and faith needed for events to play out and things to heal).
Support for Troubled Times: Splendid Mariposa Lily (for when alienation and divisions between people leave you so bereft of comfort it feels like you need a hug from the Great Mother herself), Green-Cross Gentian (for the ability to persist when things feel so hard you don’t know if you can manage it), Star of Bethlehem (for deep soothing comfort and relief in the face of trauma), and Self-Heal (for supporting a deep sense of wholeness from the inside out).
Emotional Rescue (Reiki-infused Rescue Remedy): Impatiens (for patience and faith), Clematis (for groundedness), Star of Bethlehem (for deep soothing comfort and relief in the face of trauma), Rock Rose (for calming panic and having courage), and Cherry Plum (for finding inner spiritual sources of strength when you are losing control of your emotions and/or when you fear your own annihilation).

Flower essences are used to assist with mind-body-spirit interactions and individual results may vary. They are extremely dilute which makes them quite safe. But because so little physical substance can be detected in a flower essence solution, these products are presumed to work on an energetic or vibrational level—something that cannot be adequately tested by western scientific methods. Claims made by me, therefore, are based on personal experiences and the evidence of the combined multiple decades of case notes by Dr. Edward Bach as well as Healing Herbs and Flower Essence Services (the companies who make the ingredients I use in my products). This is not, however, accepted medical evidence or substantiated scientific evidence from a modern allopathic point of view. I am not a medical doctor or licensed healthcare practitioner.
