Agrimony is a Bach Flower Remedy people often turn to if they have trouble choosing a flower essence to use because they try not to let themselves feel their feelings at all (if they can help it). These are most often the people who are the life of the party—always laughing and joking around, always keeping things light. They’re fun to be around and you will most definitely being sharing a few drinks or something more effective at keeping moods up in their presence—at least in the most common expression of this trait. But even party-shunning introverts can use Agrimony—especially if they were taught by trauma, shaming, or family conventions to put a smile on their face and push feelings aside. Unfortunately, after a whole day or whole life of this, the feelings are just begging to be addressed and pop up at night, too often just as your head hits your pillow, when nobody else is around to see or intervene. But, of course, in true Agrimony-needing fashion, grabbing a sleeping pill might seem like the best solution. People who could benefit from Agrimony most are frequently in danger of becoming alcoholics or drug addicts in an attempt to self-medicate away the pain. Agrimony helps people honestly face their pain so the transformation and healing they need can occur.
But wait. Doesn’t that mean they’d have to feel their feelings—exactly what they’re trying to avoid?!!
Yes. That’s why Agrimony is typically just a very helpful first step, and you should be aware of that if you choose this flower essence. The next step is working with flower essences that address the emotions and sometimes memories that come up. Agrimony can often be extremely helpful in the beginning stages of therapy as can Yerba Santa and Golden Ear Drops (sometimes in concert). Those are other flower essences that help a person release emotions. But I also recommend having flower essences available to work with those usually hidden or pushed away feelings.
Star of Bethlehem is usually a great one to have around. It provides great soothing for grief and trauma of all sorts.
Cherry Plum is essential if the feelings are intense and volatile or if it feels like allowing those feelings to flow might tear your world apart. That’s usually why they’re buried in the first place—another reason for working with a therapist! (And another reason why a therapist might want to have a selection of the flower essences mentioned in this article on hand.)
Other common feelings might be feelings of despair (try Gorse), anger (try Holly), feeling sorry for yourself or resentful (try Willow). And the list goes on!
What do you fear would happen if you allowed the feelings you push away to surface? Flower essences to help you work with those feelings are the ones you’d want to have on hand.

Flower essences are used to assist with mind-body-spirit interactions and individual results may vary. They are extremely dilute which makes them quite safe. But because so little physical substance can be detected in a flower essence solution, these products are presumed to work on an energetic or vibrational level—something that cannot be adequately tested by western scientific methods. Claims made by me, therefore, are based on personal experiences and the evidence of the combined multiple decades of case notes by Dr. Edward Bach as well as Healing Herbs and Flower Essence Services (the companies who make the ingredients I use in my products). This is not, however, accepted medical evidence or substantiated scientific evidence from a modern allopathic point of view. I am not a medical doctor or licensed healthcare practitioner.
