Calla Lilies have represented sexuality and fertility since ancient times. Just look at them! One voluptuous outer petal wrapped seductively around an inner golden spike—they were once thought to be the perfect flower to give the bride and groom at their wedding. Interestingly, though, Calla Lillies don’t need other flowers in order to reproduce. They are basically hermaphroditic in the sense of having both female and male parts in the same flower. They self-pollinate with the help of bees, other insects, or the wind.
If you are familiar with the Doctrine of Signatures—where the form of the plant and how it grows indicates its primary use—you can probably guess what this plant is used for as a flower essence. It’s for people who feel confused about their sexuality, sexual identity or gender. It can help you come to more acceptance about both the male and female aspects of yourself and gain more clarity about your sexuality and sexual identity in one way or another. (Or at least gain more insight into what you might need to address further.)
People also find Calla Lily helpful if they carry hurts related to gender bias in the culture even if they are not confused about their sexual identity. For example, I’ve always known I was female and was always attracted to men, but in all my dreams and daydreams I was a man. Why? When I was young it seemed like women were expected to be housewives while men were having all the fun. They certainly seemed to have all the power and opportunities. Men got to do big things and women were never portrayed that way. I wanted a more exciting life for myself so in my dreams, I did! Later I did healing work on that and it involved the very thing Calla Lily is used for—integrating and accepting both my masculine and feminine qualities and recognizing that I did not need to reject one side of myself to have the advantages of the other.

Flower essences are used to assist with mind-body-spirit interactions and individual results may vary. They are extremely dilute which makes them quite safe. But because so little physical substance can be detected in a flower essence solution, these products are presumed to work on an energetic or vibrational level—something that cannot be adequately tested by western scientific methods. Claims made by me, therefore, are based on personal experiences and the evidence of the combined multiple decades of case notes by Dr. Edward Bach as well as Healing Herbs and Flower Essence Services (the companies who make the ingredients I use in my products). This is not, however, accepted medical evidence or substantiated scientific evidence from a modern allopathic point of view. I am not a medical doctor or licensed healthcare practitioner.
