When my partner Paul and I had a joint spiritual counseling practice, we occasionally had a client who put us on too high a pedestal. It was actually a hallmark of our practice to avoid that—the last thing we wanted was for people to abdicate their own inner authority and look to us for answers as if we were some kind of gods. We had skills, especially working together, so some people would be awed by that and start looking at us in a wide-eyed dazzled kind of way. I’m sure every person who gets elevated in the public view knows what I’m talking about—every entertainment celebrity and charismatic political figure has seen it and some practically live for that idolization. But we truly abreacted to it and I even started turning down sessions with people who acted like that. Eventually, lack of “appropriate” clients made us shut the practice down. We just hated being dehumanized by other people’s projections, false expectations, and misguided spiritual purity tests. Not that we didn’t have wonderful clients who we cared about a lot— we did and on a lesser level I still do in the context of flower essence consultations. But it wasn’t appropriate for us and what we wanted to be able to do—be human, be vulnerable, be people who have our own issues we work through, and still use spiritual guidance to help other people.
Falling into guru worship and obsession with the glamour and glitter of someone or something outside ourselves—thinking that is the answer to our prayers—is such a pitfall on the spiritual path that there are actually flower essences that have been identified to address that. One is now an endangered species so I won’t mention it here but the other is California Poppy. I just re-added the scented version to my shop today so it seems like the right time to discuss it again.
California Poppy helps a person re-orient to developing spiritually in a more centered, stable way, a way based on more gradual inner development instead of on de-stabilizing mind-boggling experiences caused by psychedelic drugs, exotic-feeling occult rituals, cults or falling under the spell of a charismatic leader. Your heart and ways of inner knowing can awaken in a healthy way that strengthens you and helps you find your own inner light, and California Poppy can help with that tremendously.
I’ve written about California Poppy extensively in two other blog posts:

A Legal Note:
Mama Love products are intended to add to a person’s sense of well-being. They all have worked for me and many of my customers. But nothing I make is a one size fits all magic pill; neither are they drugs of any sort. In other words, flower essences may not be effective for everyone. Individual results may vary. Claims made by me are my opinions based on personal experiences and the evidence of years of case notes and writings by Dr. Edward Bach as well as Healing Herbs and Flower Essence Services (the companies who make the ingredients I use in my products). This is not, however, accepted “medical” evidence. I am not a medical doctor or licensed healthcare practitioner.
