Sometimes Bach Flower Remedy practitioners talk about “type” remedies. I don’t tend to do that because I use too wide a range of flower essences and think more in terms of life themes. I don’t want to feel like a single flower essence defines me and my life! Does that make me the “rebel” type? Perhaps! (lol) But for those who find this concept helpful, I will explain that “type remedies” are sometimes described as remedies for the primary personality you were born with and what, therefore, appears to define what you are meant to work on in this life.
Very spiritual-sounding—and that appeals to me— but still too limiting from my point of view! Is it JUST spiritual? Well . . . perhaps.
But there is science involved. I know because my mom actually participated in a study while she was pregnant with me that showed that developing fetuses in the womb feel their mother’s feelings—or at least strongly respond in the way that adult humans do to the cascade of hormones and other biochemicals associated with emotional responses. If a pregnant mom watches a sad film, her developing baby is flooded with the biochemistry mom releases in response to that. The same thing with fear (only different biochemicals are activated then). And there is more recent evidence indicating that a significant trauma a mother experiences during her pregnancy can affect her developing child and that chronic exposure to stress during pregnancy does as well.
And then, once you are born, you wind up in an already established family system affected by your family’s life experiences, the life experiences of their parents, and the societal situation and economic conditions present in their lives in the present. And THAT—combined with your womb-established personality traits are what sets you on a life path with particular themes to grapple with and grow from throughout your life.
Is karma involved? Is it astrology? Did you CHOOSE your parents to teach you particular lessons? Perhaps! And I sometimes see evidence to make me believe it. But you don’t have to believe in that to have it be true that —whether you were “meant” to deal with this or not, whether it was your karma or not—we all come into this life with advantages or disadvantages that are either healed or interrupted in our childhoods and then are combined with new life experiences to give us life themes or a “personality type” to grapple with or make use of skillfully throughout our lives.
What personality type would start this blog post off like that?
Mine. And the one flower essence I most relate to is Water Violet. The great thing about being a Water Violet “type” is feeling content (most of the time) to be on my own researching, learning, or creating projects of my own device. Nothing makes me happier than a day spent doing exactly what I want. And that’s what I like to do most besides hanging out with the very few people who “get” me and enjoy hanging out researching, learning, and creating, too!
The bad thing about being a person with Water Violet tendencies is when I either don’t get to hang out with my small circle of good friends or go through a period when I really would like to have more friends. I can’t seem to make myself do the things people do to find new friends, don’t find it easy or fun to bring anyone who just happens to be in my life closer in, and feel lonely and vulnerable to despondency (in that situation) as a result. And what’s that about using networking to get ahead in the world? OMFG—that’s not a concept I even understand, for better and for worse. The despondency doesn’t happen often, mind you, because I learned some time in my youth to do art or read a book or dive deep into learning about something I’m interested in. And then I’m perfectly content until the next time I wish I had more friends and didn’t do anything about it.
All of this is to say that if you relate to anything I’m saying in this blog post, Water Violet might be helpful to you! Water Violet Flower Essence helps a person with preferring-to-be-alone traits develop a more inclusive way of being in the world so they can enjoy loving joyful connections with other people. And I just added a listing for the ability to add an essential oil scent to the unscented Reiki-infused flower essence spray version, too.
Personal Experience and Development
I decided to try Water Violet and report on that for this post. I felt energetic sensations in my 2nd chakra—the one most associated with the Water element and with family relationships. The energy was held there for awhile and then went up and out the top of my head several times, with a feeling of clearing each time. Then the energy went down to the first chakra, lingered awhile, and I felt the shy and disappointed-with-humanity feelings I had as a child along with the memories related to that. I was very shy because I was taught to be quiet and cautious around other people by my overly-protective young parents. In early elementary school, I felt like a sequestered baby deer looking out from a hidden place and trying to make sense of why people acted the way they did. Fawn Lily flower essence comes to mind and is probably also right for me. I didn’t know how to be myself and still be welcomed by my peers. So many people seemed like they were either alright with acting in weird hurtful ways or like they didn’t dare be themselves either and just faked being whatever they believed their friends expected them to be. They were certainly mean to me! (Wild Pansy) I didn’t want to be like them. And I didn’t have good role models to show me how to make friends and still get to be myself. My mom, for example, was shy and introverted as well. She made friends on the job (as do I), but I didn’t get to meet those friends and see how she interacted with them. I never met them, and I never met my father’s friends either! Neither one invited anyone but family members to the house, and if they went out to be with friends on their date nights, I didn’t know about it. That’s why I don’t buy into “type flower essences.” Types are MADE—not who you are!
So would I use Water Violet as my type remedy throughout my life? No! I will change and grow out of that (if I want to). AND I would do that by choosing what I want to experience next and choosing the flower essences that will help me let go of what’s holding me back. Perhaps Wild Pansy combined with Fawn Lily as a next step since that is what came up. And then I would see what needs to be addressed (if anything) after that! Forgiveness of my fellow man and forgiveness for myself for not being taught how to do that? That’s what popped into my mind just now—Holly and/or Pine. Then whatever comes up after that. Maybe having more optimism around it—Borage, Impatiens, Zinnia and Larch. That’s my Renewed Faith and Optimism formula—the one I started using and felt so great about last night! Based on that experience, I would say: probably so.

Flower essences are used to assist with mind-body-spirit interactions and individual results may vary. They are extremely dilute which makes them quite safe. But because so little physical substance can be detected in a flower essence solution, these products are presumed to work on an energetic or vibrational level—something that cannot be adequately tested by western scientific methods. Claims made by me, therefore, are based on personal experiences and the evidence of the combined multiple decades of case notes by Dr. Edward Bach as well as Healing Herbs and Flower Essence Services (the companies who make the ingredients I use in my products).
